Andreapolsky district is an administrative district in Tver oblast, Russian Federation. Its administrative center is the town of Andreapol. Andreapolsky district lies 550km west of Moscow, in Western Russia, on the Valdai Hills. The Daugava or Western Dvina is flowing through Andreapolsky district. Its area is 3,051km². The population is estimated at 17,000. More than 60% of people live in Andreapol, which is located in the center of the Andreapolsky district. Andreapol was first mentioned in chronicles in 1489. However, first human settlements are dated back around 10,000 years ago. During WWII the town was occupied by the Germans troops from autumn 1941 until winter 1942 when it was liberated. Forest covers around 70% of the Andreapolsky district. As a result of that the logging industry provides substantial revenue for the district. However, the extensive commercial logging has had a negative impact on the environment. Another industry which plays a fundamentally important role in the life of the local community is agriculture. Also a porcelain production plant exists in the district center.
