Novokubansk is an administrative center of Novokubansky district in Krasnodarskiy Kray, Russian Federation. Novokubansk is situated on the Kuban River 1500km south from Moscow, in Northern Caucasus. The population of Novokubansk is approximately 34,600 what is more than 40% of the district population.

 

When the Caucasian War ended, in 1867, former solders decided to settle and found a new town which is now known as Novokubansk. In 1936 Novokubansk became the center of Novokubansky district. During WWII the town was occupied by the Germans troops from August 6, 1942 until January 25, 1943 when it was liberated. Six soldiers were killed and 16 were wounded during the battle. Rapidly grown Novokubansk was granted the status of city in 1966.

 

Major federal roads and railway pass near Novokubansk. The town is very developed and it is the center of local food processing industry and agriculture. Surrounding Novokubansk are a number of orchards and wineries. A local brandy ‘Big Prize’ is a famous product of one of the biggest wineries in the town. A big sugar cane production plant is situated at outskirts of Novokubansk. Also one of the largest local experimental-industrial farms is headquartered in Novokubansk.

  

In 1990s the President of Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin visited Novokubansk during his election campaign.
